Mrs. Hedberg's English Classroom News

Welcome to my class this year.   I will periodically update classes with photos and news events.

English 30-2 (Block 3) We will begin the semester with Short Stories and a terminology review.

English 20-1(Block 4) - We will be starting the semester with a Film Study of the BBC Film Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen.   We will begin by learning about the Victorian Era and Regency traditions.  (Proper Etiquette may be required! hmmm? )  We will then study Oscar Wilde's play The Importance of Being Earnest.  You better brush up on your manners!

English 30-2 - (Semester 1)  Our Field Trip to the Mustard Seed in Edmonton on Monday, September 21 in connection with our Novel Study of Antwone Fisher's Finding Fish is over and students learned a lot of information about homelessness, poverty, addiction and marginalization through a Social Issues Walk and volunteering.

Knowledge and Employability English 10-4 -   Our Reading Buddy program has ended for another semester.   This semester we collaborated with Ms. Dunn's Grade 3 class at North Star Elementary School.   They read together, shared stories and it ended with a puppet show.  The students found fairy tale scripts and re-wrote them for a grade 3 level.  They then constructed the puppet theater and puppets.  Great Work by all students!

High School Mock Trial Tournament - New this year, CLHS has become a member of Alberta Speech and Debate and will have a team participating in Edmonton's High School Mock Trial Tournament in April 2016.  This team of 6 will compete with other area High Schools in a Mock Trial.  We will be given a court case and the team will have to assume the roles of prosecution, defence and the witnesses.  They will have to argue their case in front of real court officials, including judges and other officers of the court, who have volunteered their time.  It will occur in conjunction with Law Day events.  It is coached by Mr. David Whan and myself.  If you have any questions please see either one of us.
