Teachers - Senior High - Science Specialist
Mr. Kelly Johnson
My name is Kelly Johnson and I teach both Chemistry and General Sciences at Cold Lake High School. I am also the Head Coach for The Royals Football Senior High School Team. I began my post secondary education at Mayville State University in Mayville, North Dakota; where I also played for the Mayville State ‘Comets’ Football Team. I then transferred to the University of Lethbridge where I earned my Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Education Degrees, majoring in Chemistry and minoring in Mathematics.
I was honored to receive the APEGA Award for Math & Science Teachers entitled "Who Makes School Cool!" in 2001. In 2002 I was selected by Football Alberta as the “Tier III Coach of the Year”; I was also selected by Football Canada as “Canada’s Youth Football Coach of the Year”, and represented Canada at the NFL Youth Football Summit in Canton, Ohio in the summer of 2002. I was honored -once again- to be nominated, and selected as a finalist for this award in 2012. In 2007 our Science Team at GCHS was honored with a “Xerox Legacy Award” for Exemplary Practices as a Professional Learning Community. In both 2003 and 2007 I received “Xerox Legacy Awards” from Northern Lights School Division for Exemplary Extra-curricular Service. I am fortunate to work with an amazing coaching staff, on both the Bantam and High School Football Teams; these coaches volunteer countless hours to assist in the development of our players both on the field, as well as in their respective schools and in the larger community of Cold Lake.
I have taught at Cold Lake High School (formerly Grand Centre High School) for the past seventeen years, and I am passionate about both teaching and coaching. I believe in youth development through education, community service and athletics. I feel fortunate to work in NLSD, and at such a great school. We have a multitude of programs offered at our school by a devoted staff. We serve a student body comprised of many remarkable youth, which makes teaching a pleasure!
I am a dedicated teacher, and my goal is to help all of my students set goals for themselves, and to help them be successful in attaining these goals. I also am a firm believer in the importance of servant leadership and giving back to our community through volunteerism.
If you have any questions or concerns about your son or daughter's education where I may be of assistance, please contact my by either phone or e-mail.
